Happy Halloween!

Today is James' very first holiday, Halloween! We dressed him up as a pumpkin and took some pictures. He also received a cute Halloween onesie from Grandma and Grandpa. Although he's a little too young for trick-or-treating yet, we look forward to next year when we can take him out!
Happy Halloween, everyone!

Happy 3 month birthday, James!

Today James is 3 months old!!! And he has already grown up so much..it's amazing to watch him explore his world and learn new things. As a treat for him, we purchased his very first playcenter-A Baby Einstein Jumper. He's already fascinated by it. We also purchased his very first Baby Einstein Music DVD to celebrate his newly appointed 3 month status. We're so proud of his development and we couldn't be happier!

James finds his feet!

October 19th, 2008

Tim and James were playing around and all of a sudden James grabbed his foot and really looked at it! Ever since then, he's been kicking up his legs and grabbing on to his feet like they are the most fascinating thing in the world!

Good job, buddy!!

Birthday Trip to Newport Beach

October 11th-12th, 2008

Today we went down to Newport Beach for my birthday. Thankfully, James slept the whole way down there. Once we checked into the motel, we ate lunch and then went over to our dear friend Shannon's so that James could hang out with Ben and we could all have 'family time'. It was a lot of fun! Later that evening, we all went out to eat at California Pizza Kitchen. Our babies behaved wonderfully, as you can see.

On Sunday morning, we went to the beach and walked around a little with our dog, Pixie, showing James the ocean and pointing out all the sights and smells. He was awake for a little bit, but it started to get warm and we could tell he was getting tired. So after shooting some video on our camcorder, we went home. All in all it was a great weekend!

Making Progress

Friday, September 26, 2008

This morning after I fed James at 6am, I had Tim try to put him back in his crib to sleep (since he had fallen asleep in the bed with me), but he woke up due to a diaper change and Tim stayed with him until he fell asleep again. And amazingly enough, he has been sleeping in his crib up until now, which is 9:30am, so for about 3 hours. The good news is that I’ve been up since 7:45am, so I actually had time to make breakfast, take a shower, get dressed and actually put on makeup. Unbelievable!! At 9:45 I went in to get him and he was already starting to wake up, so it worked out great. I fed him until 10:15, changed his diaper, and then we were on our way to the doctor’s!

At the doctor’s office he received his last shot for his immunizations (he didn’t even have to leave his car seat) and then I decided to take him to Tim’s school since it was right around his lunch time. As luck would have it we were able to eat lunch together and show off the baby to his friends and the office staff. James was awake and smiling almost the whole time. I was so proud! He even sat in on Tim’s choir for a little while and he was having a great time. Tim’s students really oohed and ahhed over him.

After I left his school, on a whim, I decided to call Joy to see if she was at home for lunch…and she was! So I stopped by so she could meet little James. She mentioned how everyone at the D.O. would love to see him, so I asked her if I could feed him at her house and she let me take care of him after she went back to work. I locked up her house 20 minutes later and then went over there. I got to visit pretty much everyone! It was a lot of fun. Unfortunately James started to get fussy, I think because he’d been passed around all day and had spent quite a lot of time in his car seat. Brenda rocked him to sleep and he passed out around 2:30pm. So he was up for nearly 5 hours…I think a record for him during the day!

I ended up leaving around 3:15pm, got home around 3:45pm. It was time to feed James again, so after he ate I put him in his swing. He didn’t really nap, just chilled out for a while. Then he had one big mighty BM so that took a while to clean up. After that we decided to go to Barnes and Noble to pick up some books to read while Tim was on break. It was our first outing with James in his stroller. And he was great the whole time…he was awake, but just looking at everything and being such a good boy.

Around 7pm we got home and I fed him again, then we ate dinner and once again he had one BIG BM. After all that I figured it would be a good time for a bath. So he got a bath, but after I changed him into his jammies he seemed hungry again, so instead of a story, I fed him and then rocked him to sleep. And he was out! I laid him down at 8:30pm in his crib. No binkie or anything. I tell you he must have been exhausted because he didn’t even move. And when I woke up nearly 8 hours later, he was still asleep! Amazing. He wasn’t crying, but I could hear him sucking on his hand and grunting, so I went in and fed him. He was to say the least very grateful! I changed his diaper (and his clothes, as he had drenched his little bottom in the night), and soon enough he was back in dreamland. Unfortunately, now I’m a little too awake! It’s 5am and I can’t go back to sleep. Oh well! That’s what happens when you’re not used to getting this much sleep at one time!

A Day in the Life...

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Today James is 2 months old. Now that he is interacting more and starting to understand his routine, I am trying to initiate more of a schedule with him. I need to start logging his ‘typical’ day so that I can get an idea of a pattern and how to get him on a regular schedule.

Today was a little bit different, because James had a doctor’s appointment today. However, he slept great in his crib. He went down around 11:45pm, and didn’t wake up until 6am to eat. Then he fell back asleep from 6:30-9:30am. I woke him up so that he could eat. He ate from about 9:45 until 10:05am and then promptly fell asleep-again! I placed him in his car seat (he stayed asleep, miraculously) and we went to the doctor’s. We ended up being there until 12:15. James woke up when we got there (10:45am), and I played with him while we waited for the nurse. I also changed 2 very heavy wet diapers while we were there.

An hour later, waiting for his shots, he seemed hungry so I fed him from 11:40-12:00.

Then he received his shots and well-baby visit. He is doing great-11 lbs, 11 ounces, and 26 inches long!

He cried when he got his shots, but only for a minute. I was able to get him into his car seat without any problems and we went home. He seemed a little dazed, maybe from the shots.

So we got home around 12:40. I could tell he was really tired, so I placed him in his swing and he slept for about 3 ½ hours. I woke him up around 4:15pm, changed his diaper, and then fed him. After that he wanted to eat every hour-5:20pm, then 6:15pm, then 8pm. He was also getting unusually fussy so we gave him some Tylenol to help in case he was being irritated by the shots. He would sleep but only for a few minutes at a time. When we ate dinner at 6:30pm, I placed him in his play yard and he was awake (but calm) the whole time, so that was good.

We tried to get him to sleep then. Tim rocked him, read him a story and put him down. But alas, a half hour later, he was up again because he was hungry.

At 8pm I was pretty tired, so I asked Tim to hold him so I could take a nap. At 10:30pm he brought him in to me and I nursed him in bed. Unfortunately I got really tired and fell asleep with him. I woke up 3 hours later at 1:30am and oops! He was still in the bed with me. So I got up and put him in his crib. He fussed for a little, but then went back to sleep without any problems. The batteries had died on our monitor so I just prayed that if he cried I would wake up. Thankfully, he did not and slept until 5:30am. That’s another 6 ½ hour stretch!
